On Tuesday, *Marca* reported that Real Madrid are aiming to hijack Arsenal’s move for Real Sociedad star Martín Zubimendi, noting that the midfielder hasn’t yet given a definitive yes to the Gunners—something that keeps Los Blancos hopeful of signing him this summer.

However, by Wednesday, *Marca* reported that Arsenal remain confident in their agreement with the 26-year-old. Sources close to the London club indicate that nothing has changed despite Real Madrid’s late interest. Zubimendi has reportedly already reached an agreement with Mikel Arteta’s side, and Arsenal are pointing to the deal they have in place with both the player and Real Sociedad.

According to *Marca*, some English sources have mentioned the existence of signed documents, including details beyond just the financial terms. Arsenal are said to be paying €65 million—€5 million above the player’s release clause—in instalments.

The Gunners expect Zubimendi to be part of their pre-season tour of Asia in July and remain optimistic about finalizing the transfer. Over at *AS*, it’s reported that Arsenal’s confidence stems from a pre-agreement with both the player and the Spanish club. They’ve negotiated a total fee of €70 million, slightly more than *Marca*’s figure, as a gesture of goodwill. This amount, paid in instalments, has been agreed upon in lieu of activating the €60 million release clause upfront. Zubimendi has also given his approval, with only a medical remaining.

Both clubs intend to finalize the deal in the next financial year starting July 1st, which explains the delay. For another club to disrupt Arsenal’s move, they would need to offer at least €70 million and potentially provide compensation to Real Sociedad. These conditions are what continue to make Arsenal feel secure about completing the signing.
