Arsenal are reportedly getting ready to make a formal offer for Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres, as their pursuit of Benjamin Sesko faces complications. The club has been under pressure from fans, pundits, and former players to invest heavily in a new striker, especially after their lack of attacking reinforcements in recent transfer windows hurt their 2024/25 campaign. Manager Mikel Arteta and sporting director Andrea Berta have been exploring multiple options.

Earlier reports from Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg suggested that Sesko seemed close to joining Arsenal. He stated with confidence that the player would be moving to the Emirates and added that while two Saudi Arabian clubs are interested in Sesko, the striker wants to stay in Europe. Negotiations between Arsenal and Sesko are ongoing, with both parties working on finalising the terms.

However, a more recent update from TBR Football suggested that there are now concerns from Sesko’s side about Arsenal potentially turning their focus to Gyokeres. This shift in attention is reportedly due to RB Leipzig’s firm stance on Sesko’s valuation. While Sesko’s representatives believed he could move for under €70 million (£59 million), Leipzig now insists on a deal worth €80 million (£67 million), leaving the player frustrated.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano noted in his newsletter that the race for Gyokeres is still open. He remains on Arsenal’s shortlist if the Sesko deal falls through, and Manchester United have also shown interest by contacting Gyokeres’ representatives over the weekend.

Portuguese outlet A Bola added that Sesko’s agent, Hasan Çetinkaya, met with Arsenal officials to understand the conditions for a formal offer to Sporting CP. The report claims Arsenal have made progress, and official talks with Sporting are expected soon. Arsenal are likely to be the first club to make a concrete bid for Gyokeres, with a potential offer of €60 million plus €10 million in add-ons being required to get Sporting president Frederico Varandas to the negotiating table.

Arsenal want to move quickly to secure a top striker and see Gyokeres as a key target. They have been tracking him for some time and believe he could be a strong asset in completing a deal. The next step involves direct negotiations with all parties involved.

Former Arsenal forward Paul Dickov weighed in on the situation, stating that if Arsenal do land Sesko instead of Gyokeres, it would still be a positive move. He described Sesko as a proper number nine who is tall, fast, strong, technically gifted, and a consistent goal scorer. Dickov also pointed out that Sesko has shown promise in the Bundesliga and Champions League, and with his youth, there’s plenty of room for growth.

However, Dickov also acknowledged that signing a world-class striker is not easy and any new arrival will need time to adapt to the Premier League. Arsenal have been linked with Sesko, Alvarez, Osimhen, and Gyokeres, and whichever player they bring in must perform immediately, as expectations will be high. For the past couple of seasons, Arsenal’s biggest missing piece has been a top-quality striker, and now their task is to finally get the right one through the door.
